At Pleasure Divers, we offer a handful of epic SSI specialties that are perfect for taking your scuba journey to the next level. Whether you’re keen to explore a shipwreck, glide through the water like a pro, or master your navigation skills, we’ve got the course and the chilled island vibe, to make it happen.

All specialty courses include academic e-learning, full gear hire, one or two shore dives (depending on the course) and certification with SSI.

SPECIALTY

Ever wondered how your instructor always seems to know where they’re going? Spoiler alert: it’s not magic—it’s navigation skills. The reef after dark? Totally different. The same spots come alive with nocturnal critters and bioluminescent magic. This course teaches you how to dive safely in low light, communicate clearly, and stay oriented when your vision is limited. Night diving is seriously cool—you won’t want to miss it.

Perfect Buoyancy
SPECIALTY

Float like a jellyfish, not a bulldozer. This one’s all about control, balance, and finesse. Whether you’re newly certified or looking to fine-tune your skills, this course will help you nail your buoyancy so you can hover effortlessly, conserve air, and protect the reef while looking slick underwater.

Ecology ~ Nudibranchs
SPECIALTY

Dive into the colourful world of sea slugs!
This Specialty includes a single guided shore dive with a spotlight on nudibranch ecology. Begin with easy, self-paced e-learning from home, where you’ll explore how nudibranchs eat, move, mate, defend themselves and live their best slug lives.
On dive day, enjoy a dedicated pre-dive briefing designed to help you spot these tiny treasures in their natural habitat.
After your dive, relax with a complimentary BBQ and walk away with your SSI Specialty Certification.
Don’t forget your underwater camera—nudi photos highly encouraged!

Science of Diving
SPECIALTY

The SSI Science of Diving Specialty is a dry academic course that explores the physics, physiology and equipments systems behind scuba diving.
This course does not include any practical pool or ocean dives, but does require one classroom session with your instructor to complete the examination.

Whilst it is a required prerequisite for most SSI dive professional ratings and advanced technical programs, this specialty is perfect for divers who want to increase their safety and confidence.

Ecology ~ Coral ID
SPECIALTY

Explore the foundations of the reef with this coral-focused Specialty.
Begin with self-paced e-learning covering coral characteristics, structures, growth forms and lifespans.
Then join us for a guided shore dive featuring a detailed briefing on how to recognise and identify the corals that flourish around our island.
After your dive, enjoy a complimentary BBQ and receive your SSI Specialty Certification.
Underwater camera? Definitely recommended—our local reefs are photogenic!

Enriched Air Nitrox
SPECIALTY

The SSI Enriched Air Nitrox specialty course will teach you how to safely plan and dive with enriched air mixtures of up to 40% oxygen. The course will go through the theory behind diving with enriched air, how to test your tanks and your oxygen levels.

Divers completing their Advanced course. This add-on will increase your no-decompression limits, increase your safety and reduce the required length of your surface intervals when completing your Advanced training at deeper sites like Yongala/ MOUA
