SSI DIVER STRESS & RESCUE

The SSI STRESS & RESCUE COURSE IS ALL ABOUT PREVENTION, AWARENESS AND SMART DECISION MAKING

Diving should be all about fun and adventure, but knowing how to handle the unexpected? That’s next-level confidence.

Stress plays a huge role in many rescue situations and dive accidents, which is why the SSI Stress & Rescue course is all about prevention, awareness and smart decision-making. You’ll learn how to recognise, manage and resolve potential issues, both on the surface and underwater - giving you the skills to keep yourself and your dive buddies safe.

Most divers say this is one of the most rewarding courses they’ve ever taken. At Pleasure Divers, we make sure it’s as engaging, hands-on and fun, as it is informative. Whether you're working toward a dive pro certification or just want to level up your safety skills, this course is a total game-changer.

Ready to become a more confident, capable and safety-savvy diver? Gain the skills, boost your confidence and be the dive buddy everyone wants by their side!

Locals Tip: stay a few nights extra after your Rescue course, hire some dive gear, find a dive buddy from our Pleasure Divers tribe of local divers and go confidently into the sea without a dive guide, with the knowledge that you are adequately prepared.

  • You most certainly can! The only prerequisite is an Open Water licence and it can be from any agency…

  • Yes you may! SSI does not require you to hold an Advanced qualification, Open Water is perfectly fine!

  • You are welcome to enrol in the course, however you’ll to need to gain those qualification before the day the course starts.

It is best to find a First Aid or 02 course before coming to the island.

  • We prefer our Rescue students to have some recent diving experience and some logged dives under their belt.

If you have not dived in the past 12 months, or you have not completed any fun dives since your Open Water course, then it is a good idea to build up a few logged dives or take a Refresher, before enrolling in a Rescue course with us.

This course aims to extend and progress your exisiting skill set, so we expect those basic open water skills to be sharp! Plus dive conditions can be challenging in our area. So having a bit of recent dive experience will put you in the best position to tackle our Rescue course.

Speak with our friendly office staff to determine if a refresher is necessary for you!

  • There is no specific amount of fun dives set by SSI for enrolment in this course. However, it is helpful for participants to have at minimum 10 logged recent dives before enrolling. This general diving experience, helps participants understand and have awareness of general diving scenarios and common stressful situations faced by divers.

  • 100%! This course is for all divers. It focuses on how to be a great dive buddy, anticipate stress and prevent the escalation of stress.

  • Absolutely yes!

Minimum age to enrol is 12yrs

Parent divers with certified children can do this course together as a family. This course will give parents strategies for dealing with stress faced by their buddy, and is very useful if your buddy is a child.

  • Everybody reads and learns at a different pace but if you allow about 5 hours you should be able to cover all content.

  • No. The SeaLink ferry operates regularly until about 10pm at night. So you can return to Townsville each evening.

However, we recommend soaking up the island vibes with an overnight stay!
