SSI SCUBA SKILLS UPDATE

A Scuba Skills UPDATE (AKA REFRESHER) IS THE PERFECT WAY TO SHAKE OFF THE COBWEBS.

Feeling a little rusty? No worries—we’ll get you back into the underwater groove!

Over time, skills like buoyancy control, equipment handling and emergency procedures can fade a bit—but that’s what we’re here for! Our refresher course boosts your confidence, fine-tunes your technique and makes sure you feel totally comfortable, safe and ready for your next dive adventure.

The best part? You’ll have an SSI Dive Pro guiding you through it all—so you can review, practice and refresh those essential skills in a fun, stress-free setting.

And hey, scuba tech is always evolving, so we’ll also fill you in on the latest gear and diving techniques to keep you up to date.

It doesn’t matter if you’re PADI, SSI or another agency-certified—you can complete your refresher with us. Plus, if you’re planning a dive holiday (hello, tropical dream dives!), this is a great way to make sure you spend less time worrying about skills and more time soaking in the magic of the deep blue on your holiday dives.

Thinking about diving the legendary SS Yongala wreck—one of the most iconic dive sites in Australia? We’re lucky to have this incredible site within our local region and a refresher is highly recommended before you take the plunge! It’s a thrilling but challenging dive and we’ll help you brush up on safety procedures, dive computer usage and key techniques, ensuring you have the best possible experience exploring this historic underwater wonder.

Just want to refresh your skills but don’t need the certification card? No worries! Ask us about our discount for non-certification refreshers.

  • Typically, a refresher is a good idea after an absence from diving of 2 years or more. But people take refreshers for all sorts of reasons, maybe an upcoming dive holiday, maybe a planned trip to Yongala, perhaps in preparation for an SSI course.

  • You’ll receive a digital Scuba Skills Update certification, which offers evidence that you completed a refresher course. Your original Open Water licence or Advanced licence remains the same with your original certifying instructors.

  • Remember that this is not a complete re-take of an Open Water course. We focus on particular areas that suit our participants. Our Scuba Update courses are tailored to our participants and specific to the reasons you’ve booked it! If you’ve booked a refresher because your travelling to the Yongala, we’ll spend time reviewing computer usage and decompression limits in preparation of your deep dives. If you’ve booked it because you have trouble with your buoyancy we can spend some quality time practicing buoyancy skills.

  • This is totally dependent on the ocean conditions on the day. We have a purpose-built on-site dive training pool at our facility, so we like to start there. However, on days when the ocean is a “pool”, we may decide to take you out and get salty, complete all the reviews in an open water environment. If its rough out there, we stay in the safe confines of our pool!

  • Yes! Absolutely, we can still spend quality time reviewing dive principals and practicing skills. And you’ll still benefit greatly. A discounted price is on offer for people who don’t want the certification card.

  • Absolutely! In fact, if you’ve just kitted yourself out with brand new gear, spending time with an instructor in a refresher, is a great way to tweak the fit, the trim and get familiar with your new kit.
